Trout Tank

The Denver Metro SBDC created Trout Tank in order to provide pitch training and exposure to Colorado’s entrepreneurs. Through the Trout Tank: Pitch Accelerator, entrepreneurs will perfect their pitch and gain the skills they need to secure funding. This training culminates in the Trout Tank: Pitch Event where the top businesses pitch for the lending, investing, and business community.

Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology (LIFT)

The Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology (LIFT) is a multi-pronged initiative undertaken by Water Environment & Resue Foundation (WE&RF) and Water Environment Federation (WEF) to help bring new water technology to the field quickly and efficiently.
Overall, LIFT includes the following components:
  • Technology Evaluations – Facility and industry end users share the cost of conducting demonstrations to accelerate adoption of new technologies (WE&RF Lead)
  • People and Policy – Benchmarking how individual utilities accomplish research and development and identification of resources and policies needed to implement effective R&D (WEF Lead)
  • Communication – Training, education, and outreach (WEF Lead)
  • Informal Forum for R&D  – Managers and individuals responsible for technology identification and deployment share experiences, activities, and interests (Facility/Industry Lead)

Cleantech Open Rocky Mountain

Since 2005 Cleantech Open (CTO) has trained over 1200 early-stage clean technology startup entrepreneurs through its annual business accelerator. A majority of CTO alumni have survived the merciless technology startup “valley of death” and gone on to raise $1.2 billion and create over 3,000 clean economy jobs.

Go Code Colorado

Go Code Colorado is taking a lead position in the public data movement.

The first and only statewide effort of its kind, Go Code Colorado brings together a community of entrepreneurs, business partners, and developers to make use of public data through a series of events. These events center around a challenge weekend in five cities across the state, engaging the entire state in two days of innovation around the use of public data. Teams in each of the five cities compete to build apps that use public data to help businesses make smarter decisions.

Hydro Venture Partners

Hydro Venture Partners invests private capital in the water sector. They focus on technology companies and distributed infrastructure solutions that provide innovative ways to meet the water challenges faced by agriculture, municipalities, industry, energy/power, and the environment.

Advanced Industries Grants – Office of Economic Development and International Trade

Colorado’s seven advanced industries:

In addition to credit, funding and job training programs, a set of five advanced industry grants make up the Advanced Industries Accelerator programs, which are designed to promote growth and sustainability in these industries by helping accelerate commercialization, encourage public-private partnerships, increase access to early stage capital and create a strong ecosystem that increases the state’s global competitiveness.

Rockies Venture Club

Rockies Venture Club is an angel investing group dedicated to accelerating economic development by educating and connecting investors and entrepreneurs. Their culture is based on events, education, and execution.

They have resources for both investors and entrepreneurs. RVC is the oldest, longest running angel investing group in the United States and it is the sixth largest angel group in the country. We host countless events providing opportunities to meet potential investors.

Colorado Microloans

The Colorado Microloans Program provides small loans to start-ups and entrepreneurial small businesses that are underserved by traditional debt markets.  This program is the creation of the Colorado Economic Development Commission (EDC), is administered by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT), and is implemented by the participating lenders.

The goal of this program is that Colorado small businesses have adequate access to capital.  OEDIT has provided capital to three non-profit lenders, who are charged with making loans to start-up or entrepreneurial small businesses that are not being adequately addressed by other government programs or non-profit lenders.  The program focuses on small, character-based loans to start up companies, especially in rural areas.

Colorado Impact Fund

The Colorado Impact Fund is a venture capital fund dedicated to supporting local companies that generate consistent investment returns in addition to positive community outcomes.

Their investors include some of Colorado’s most respected executives, families, foundations and corporations, each of whom is committed to making a difference in the State of Colorado and beyond. Managed by an affiliate of Vestar Capital Partners, the Colorado Impact Fund provides growth capital to entrepreneurs who have developed compelling business models that drive meaningful financial returns and community impact.
